This unique new grade not only delivers unprecedented heat resistance, but also opens vast new design possibilities by providing exceptional dimensional stability for thin-wall molding. Extem UH resin underscores SABIC Innovative Plastics' ongoing investment in high-end thermoplastic technologies and the company's proactive efforts to track and address fast-evolving customer needs.

Using Extem UH resin, customers in the automotive, aerospace, semiconductor, electrical and chemical industries can achieve superior mechanical performance vs. polyetheretherketone (PEEK); greater system cost advantages vs. cross-linked polyamide imide (PAI); much improved design freedom vs. ceramics; and broader metal replacement opportunities in applications where no previous resins were available.

First Unfilled Thermoplastic to Meet UL® 746B Standard at 260C

With its high glass transition temperature, new Extem UH 1019 resin is the first unfilled thermoplastic to achieve a continuous use temperature rating of 260C according to UL 746B. Although PEEK – a semi-crystalline material – offers similar heat performance, its mechanical properties may not withstand high continuous use temperatures. In contrast, Extem UH 1019 resin delivers eight times better stiffness, as well as superior creep and extreme low thermal expansion performance. These properties enable the design of thin walls and complex shapes with high dimensional stability, as well as the potential for weight-out.

Compared to PAI, which requires cross-linking that impacts yields, Extem UH 1019 resin uses simple, high-yield injection molding and extrusion oled technology on mobile phone processes and can be recycled.

Further, Extem UH 1019 resin has the potential to replace ceramic and metal in applications where thermoplastics are not suitable. In these cases, the SABIC Innovative Plastics material brings advantages of weight-out, excellent design flexibility and system cost reduction. Extem resins are inherently flame retardant without the use of halogenated additives that can pose environmental risks and raise regulatory compliance issues.

Coventry Airport expansion to create major job boost for region

PRLog (Press Release) – Apr 21, 2011 – Around 10,000 jobs could be created in a major boost for the region as a result of plans to create a £250 million economic hub at Coventry Airport.

Sir Peter Rigby, who bought Coventry Airport last April, has announced a major scheme which could create up to 10,000 jobs by 2015.

The vision of Sir Peter Rigby, the chairman of Coventry Airport (http://www.coventryairport.co.uk/news/2011/04/21/ten_tho ...), is to ensure the growth and sustainability of the airport through two complementary development projects – the airport and its infrastructure and a joint venture to develop the environment around the airport.

That will include both a technology office park and manufacturing and distribution investment opportunities – totaling more than 200 acres – alongside improving the airport's passenger terminal and cargo facilities.

The 65-acre office park would include a new junction from the A45 – which would also be designed to cure traffic problems at the Tollbar island.

As well as developing the passenger terminal and cargo facilities, investment in the airport infrastructure would create an on-site hotel, restaurant, car parking and airside related hangarage and facilities including a new access road.

Sir Peter said the proposed development would also re-establish passenger flights which would be a major boost to the local economy.

He said Coventry Airport would be consulting with residents and businesses to integrate the organisation within the local community.

"Since we bought Coventry Airport, our management has been very much community focused and, as always, we are looking to work with the community we serve and bring jobs to the a my photo and wallpaper rea," he said.

"Our plans to improve the airport's infrastructure and facilities will benefit the entire West Midlands because we want Coventry Airport to act as an economic catalyst for job creation and income generation.

"We would have the immediate capacity to serve one million passengers a year by re-starting airline operations.

"We estimate it will be worth £177.9 million of Gross Value Added (GVA) to the economy which will generate income for local and regional financial stability and will be a central transport hub by improving communications links across the region as well as competitiveness and efficiency."

Sir Peter is forming a joint venture company with a major developer and is planning to create a new extension to the south west end of Middlemarch Business Park – and create a new office park to the north of the airport.

"The business park element of the scheme will be on the outer ring of the airport and will be a major boost to industry and the local economy because it will support the growth of business adjacent to excellent transport links and diversify the industry and skills of people.

"We will be consulting with local residents and the business community and hope they are as excited by our proposals as we are to put Coventry firmly on the aviation and business map.

"We have always seen Coventry Airport as an economic catalyst for job creation and income generation in the region. These plans are a major step to turning that very much into a reality."

Using Extem UH resin, customers in the automotive, aerospace, semiconductor, electrical and chemical industries can achieve superior mechanical performance vs. polyetheretherketone (PEEK); greater system cost advantages vs. cross-linked polyamide imide (PAI); much improved design freedom vs. ceramics; and broader metal replacement opportunities in applications where no previous resins were available.

With its high glass transition temperature, new Extem UH 1019 resin is the first unfilled thermoplastic to achieve a continuous use temperature rating of 260C according to UL 746B. Although PEEK – a semi-crystalline material – offers similar heat performance, its mechanical properties may not withstand high continuous use temperatures. In contrast, Extem UH 1019 resin delivers eight times better stiffness, as well as superior creep and extreme low thermal expansion performance. These properties enable the design of thin walls and complex shapes with high dimensional stability, as well as the potential for weight-out.

Compared to PAI, which requires cross-linking that impacts yields, Extem UH 1019 resin uses simple, high-yield injection molding and extrusion processes and can be recycled.

Further, Extem UH 1019 resin has the potential to replace ceramic and metal in applications where thermoplastics are not suitable. In these cases, the SABIC Innovative Plastics material brings advantages of weight-out, excellent design flexibility and system cost reduction. Extem resins are inherently flame retardant without the use of halogenated additives that can pose environmental risks and raise regulatory compliance issues.

Sir Peter Rigby, who bought Coventry Airport last April, has announced a major scheme which could create up to 10,000 jobs by 2015.

The vision of Sir Peter Rigby, the chairman of Coventry Airport (http://www.coventryairport.co.uk/news/2011/04/21/ten_tho ...), is to ensure the growth and sustainability of the airport through two complementary development projects – the airport and its infrastructure and a joint venture to develop the environment around the airport.

That will include both a technology office park and manufacturing and distribution investment opportunities – totaling more than 200 acres – alongside improving the airport's passenger terminal and cargo facilities.

The 65-acre office park would include a new junction from the A45 – which would also be designed to cure traffic problems at the Tollbar island.

As well as developing the passenger terminal and cargo facilities, investment in the airport infrastructure would create an on-site hotel, restaurant, car parking and airside related hangarage and facilities including a new access road.

Sir Peter said the proposed development would also re-establish passenger flights which would be a major boost to the local economy.

He said Coventry Airport would be consulting with residents and businesses to integrate the organisation within the local community.

"Since we bought Coventry Airport, our management has been very much community focused and, as always, we are looking to work with the community we serve and bring jobs to the area," he said.

CTC to Provide Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft Training Expertise

PRLog (Press Release) – Apr 20, 2011 – CTC Aviation Group plc (CTC) – world leader in the airline pilot training arena – will provide support to the UK's Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA) programme during the forthcoming FSTA fleet's introduction to the Royal Air Force at RAF Brize Norton.

The FSTA programme, delivered by AirTanker, will provide the Royal Air Force with a safe, efficient and reliable air-to-air refuelling and air transport service using a fleet of 14 specifically converted aircraft based on the A330-200 commercial airliner.

Under contract to Thales UK – a shareholder in and sub-contractor to AirTanker – CTC instructors will deliver A330-200 type rating training and operational support programmes. The initial A330-200 conversion courses begin in mid-2011 and will be delivered from the purpose-built training centre at RAF Brize Norton, which will home a CAA/EASA compliant full-flight simulator and part-task trainer. Later in 2012 CTC will assist Thales UK to establish its own A330 Type Rating Training Organisation (TRTO) Approval to be based at RAF Brize Norton. This process will require CTC to work with multiple stakeholders including Thales UK, AirTanker, the MoD and the CAA.
